Course Description:In this captivating lecture-recital, pianist Melinda Coffey Armstead explores the life and work of Russian composer and virtuoso pianist, Sergei Rachmaninoff. Through the upheavals of the Russian Revolution and World War II, Rachmaninoff thrived as the last great representative of Romanticism in Russian classical music. Works to be discussed include the famous "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini" and the beautiful lesser-known "Variations on a Theme of Corelli". |
