Course Description:

Dr. Cynthia Wagner Weick reveals the botany and cultural importance of three fascinating and long-lived tree species: the African baobab, the European yew and the ginkgo. The baobab can store thousands of gallons of water in its trunk and is known for numerous uses in Africa and globally. The European yew was sacred to the ancient Celts, and renews itself through interior roots that grow in its hollowed trunk. The ginkgo tree closely resembles fossil remains from over 200 million years ago. Gracing temple gardens throughout Asia, it has become a popular ornamental worldwide.
