Course Description:

Martha Casanave, mentored by Ansel Adams, is an iconic photographer whose extensive and varied body of portraiture will be featured in a solo retrospective at the Center for Photographic Art (CPA) in Carmel from May 20 through July 9, 2023. In our first gathering at Ryan Ranch, Casanave will address the arc of her career as a woman portrait photographer in the Central Coast masculine landscape milieu, and will also explain the evocative optics and aesthetics of pinhole photography used in some of her work. Our second meeting will be a personal tour of the exhibition provided by the artist.

Location

Course will be presented live at CSUMB Ryan Ranch (8 Upper Ragsdale Road, Monterey) for the first session and the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel for the second session and will NOT be recorded or available for viewing later. Seats are limited.

Facilitator:

Monterey Peninsula photographer Martha Casanave has had a distinguished career as artist and educator for over forty years, creating lyrical and intuitive images. Her widely exhibited photography is featured in many collections, publications, and in multiple books.
