Course Description:In the middle of the first millennium before the common era, societies in widely separated regions took several leaps forward, deepening thinking and shaping the way in which people understood themselves and their relationship with the cosmos. It was an era pivotal to the spiritual development of humanity. The changes were largely unconnected with each other yet were amazingly similar and occurred more or less simultaneously. The Greeks developed philosophy; Hebrew writers were creating their greatest writings; Zoroastrianism began in Persia; in India we find the great Hindu scriptures as well as the Buddha's teachings; and, in china it was Confucianism and Taoism. Steve Henrikson examines one of the most seminal periods of intellectual, psychological, philosophical, and religious change in recorded history. |
